Original Score and Sound Design by Radium Audio

… moving on from Macro Kingdom, we pass through the portal of a microscope to venture into the Micro Empire … surrounding us … inhabiting us … stranger than fiction … molecular machinations and mitochondrial warfare … a heartstopping, subcellular epic … a truly microcinematic experience …

Radium collaborates again with talented visual artist Clemens Wirth. Clemens says:

“as an enthusiast for little things, I wanted to go deeper than the macro universe, so I found myself hanging on the eyepiece of a microscope. The real challenge was definitely the small depth of field in microscopy. It’s really fascinating how detailed this tiny world is, and unbelievable how much is going on in only one little water drop.”

When we see Clem’s initial cuts, it feels like we’re watching an intricate saga of life and death, the battle for survival and dominance raging unceasingly. We evolve the sonic narrative with some delicately crafted sound design highlighting the kinetic plots and intrigues playing out. Given that we’ve worked hard to supplement our own internal library of bespoke created sounds over the past few months, we have a wealth of fantastic source material to sculpt and process including live insect recordings from a recent studio session, live lion roars captured on location in Africa, and a variety of hair and beauty products from our local supermarket miked up and satisfyingly squelched to elicit some wonderful gloopy textures. Underpinning this tale of microbiological ambition and strife we craft a gritty, dark, electronic score, rising through an aspiration of swelling strings and vocal textures to a climactic melee … then dispersing … strategically … to fight another day …
