Creative Review Article

Founder and Creative Director of Radium Audio Ltd, is featured in April 2008 edition of Creative Review.

The feature is about Andrew's work as a sound designer and discusses his creative work for Bentley Motors and his involvement with European research group - Sonic Interaction Design. The article focus is on sound, and its uses within creative, product design and functionality.

"Sound can be used in many different ways, for entertainment, branding and also as a feedback for experiential purposes it can also be applied as navigational aide.

Over the past 10 years, I have created sounds which have been part of entertainment systems to navigate the user-interface, and to guide the user to make selections, [Positive select, negative select, up - down etc]. We call these sounds GUI sounds [Graphical User Interface], in recent years I have been creating sounds to help change or influence a users behavior. such as a positive reward sounds on web interfaces, and so on.

With sound being able to influence a user, emotionally, you can rely on certain sounds to help with peoples habits, such as sounds people love, harp sounds, happy sounds, and musical phrases which were positive and feel good, as apposed to negative sounds such as long constant tones or beeps and alarms.

As a creative, my aspirations are to make the sonic world a much quieter place, with sounds that are much more subtler, on brand and rewarding. The Bentley interior sounds, were very much part of this thinking, how can we make the mechanistic sound of a relay clicking and clacking into something rewarding and non-intrusive and on brand for Bentley".
