Elmwood Design Rebrand Radium Audio Ltd Feb 2008

Background

Radium is an independent sound design company that produces audio creations
and signatures for brands, film, television, radio and the gaming industry.

They came to Elmwood to see if we could help them make their brand identity
and communications work harder to communicate exactly what they do, and to
generate more interest and understanding of how their work can add value.

The challenge

Radium is far more than a sound effects company. However, their identity and
language were complex and conveyed expertise - but none of the passion and
enthusiasm of the company's creative director, Andrew Diey.

The solution

Elmwood started by digging around. We found that Radium was behind the
satisfying toc... toc... toc... noise of a Bentley's indicator... and some
of the suspenseful orchestral music in TV drama. Our view was that Radium
didn't just create sound, it created emotion.

To convey the variety of sound and emotion created by Radium, we took the
company's signature "r" and recreated it using the sound waves made by
different noises. Colours were used to convey the emotion of the sound,
while a single silver foil strand was used to demonstrate Radium's technical
expertise. Each pattern is different depending on the type of communication,
and the sound it generates. We used the graphical wave pattern of a kiss on
comp slips, an envelope being opened on letterheads, as well as the spoken
word Andrew on business cards.

Jo Coomber, Managing Director Elmwood Edinburgh said The strapline and the
flexible, yet contemporary, identity makes Radium's offering instantly more
tangible and appealing to creative directors, marketeers, TV and radio
producers alike. We are very excited about the future of sonic branding.

Radium Sound Design for Ferrari

06 June, 2008

Radium recently completed the audio for the new Ferrari California teaser website.
We were comissioned by London digital agency AKQA to travel to Marenello, Italy to spend time with the new Ferrari California car which is due to launch soon.

We set up our microphones and recorded both at the factory and also at a test track in the north of Italy, at 4am in the freezing cold.

We took the car through its rev ranges and then to the max which clocked up speeds over 200mph, with microphones attached all over the car it was a successful recording session.

Without going into too much detail about the car and its capabilities, We can say that traveling at 200mph+ in the middle of the night in a new concept car from Ferrari is quite an experience. If you want to experience the audio of the car - have a listen to the teaser site
